Did you know that the first Corvettes were virtually hand-built in Flint, Michigan beginning in 1953? Back then fiberglass was used in the fabrication of its outer body because of shortage of steel as a result of the war. We may not have this particular problem these days, but for sure, if you are one Corvette enthusiast, you would have experienced some sort of difficulty in finding one part or another that you needed sometime in the past.
But one important part of the car that you will not have any difficulty in finding are used Corvette rims. Online stores and suppliers abound in cyberspace. You only need to be patient and have some knowledge in searching.
Just recently, a friend from high school called me to ask for my opinion. It was actually for his Dad who owns a Corvette. He wanted to know if I knew of some reputable dealers that carry Corvette rims. His Dad’s car, he said needed a new set of rims. The truth is, since I know I couldn’t afford brand new parts even for my two year old car, I never bothered to have information where to get brand new parts. I pick up some information from here and there, but there was nothing that really took my interest. What I do know however, I told my friend, is that there are used Corvette rims available as cheap but quality replacements. My friend was skeptical, as his Dad was somehow like my Dad too. He didn’t trust the quality of any used auto parts so he would only buy brand new ones. I couldn’t disagree with that, but I thought I’d explain why choosing used Corvette rims could save him and his Dad a lot of money. I told him reputable dealers will not sell them bogus knockoffs or rims with hidden defects. I have on occasions in the past bought and installed used rims on my car and I have even recommended the same to some other friends.
My friend didn’t assure me of anything, but he said he will try to convince his Dad to buy used Corvette rims instead for his car. I put no more thought to this after hanging up the phone. A week later, who would park a glistening Corvette in front of my house but my friend who called me about his Dad’s Corvette. Of course, the first thing I asked him was how it went with the rims. I wasn’t really surprised when he showed me the used Corvette rims his Dad installed in the car.
