The Best Functioning Soil Remediation Oxidizers

A soil remediation oxidizer that functions optimally is really no mystery.

Similar in certain respects to catalytic oxidizers, both kinds of oxidizers are manufactured for soil containing contaminates such as petroleum hydrocarbons, with diesel oil, gasoline, aromatic hydrocarbons, solvents, and many other volatile organic compounds. The variety of solvents found in soil is prolific, and many of these should be subjected to rigorous analysis prior to any remediation.

But a superior oxidizer intended primarily for soil remediation should possess a number of distinct features. First and foremost is low operating and maintenance costs. If the unit is expensive to operate and maintain, it becomes impractical from the outset. A superior soil remediation oxidizer should be safe and simple to operate. The industry is replete with horror stories if this is not the case. Any unit should have high destruction efficiencies, although the same can be said for almost any oxidizer. It should be quiet, as noise pollution can be nerve-wracking and dangerous.

If it doesn’t convert easily from thermal to catalytic operation, its efficiency is compromised, possibly drastically. The unit should be surrounded by experienced support and service staff. These individuals should be selected according to prevailing industry code. Test firing of soil remediation oxidizers is a prerequisite for successful use of the unit. If the manufacturer refuses to completely test fire the unit prior to shipment, refuse to buy it. Excellent examples of soil remediation oxidizers can be natural gas or propane fired. Experimental models with alternate fuels, including bio-fuels, are already being tested. Some of these may prove to be the “soil remediation oxidizers of choice” during decades to come.

Oxidizers designed with a large turn down ratio for varying flow rates and a modulating burner system (not a quasi-modulating unit) are essential for fluctuating process steam concentrations. Lastly, a note about aromatic hydrocarbons concerns their very aromatic

nature. Be wary. Thorough analysis of such contaminants may prove beneficial.
