Medical Malpractice in Georgia is More Common Than You Think

When you go to a doctor it's to get better, not wind up the victim of lack of skill or lack of care. The trouble is medical doctors have an elevated status because they are highly trained and are regarded as more knowledgeable. That also means we expect a higher duty and standard of care from them.
The definition of medical malpractice is a physician's failure to provide the degree of care and skill they would use during routine medical circumstances. This issue is quite disturbing to begin with, but even more frightening when you realize it is the leading cause of wrongful deaths in Georgia hospitals.
Statistics show over 225,000 people die from medmal related injuries yearly. These are usually just the ones that are actually reported.
While many people associate medical malpractice with a doctor giving them the wrong medication and something unforeseen happens, there are other ways people are injured or killed.
Death or injury may happen as the result of surgical malpractice, medication errors, diagnosis error, wrong site surgery, gastric bypass errors, birth injury, dental malpractice, bacterial infections, elder abuse, nursing home neglect, breast implant surgery and ER errors.
If you think you are the victim of medical malpractice you need to see a lawyer and discuss your case. These types of cases should not be handled on your own. And while you will need your medical files, or patient chart from your doctor, it is often easier for your lawyer to obtain this for you should your case proceed.
Medmal law is continually changing and must be assessed prior to commencing any case in this complex area of law. The other thing to be aware of is that many people don not know what constitutes medical malpractice. That means a lot of cases go unrecognized and as a consequence unreported.
It's a fact that malpractice lawsuits are on the rise these days thanks to a more informed public. They're very expensive and complex and your attorney needs all the information available to assess your chances of winning the case.
