When Michael Webb sent me a review copy of his latest book - 50 SECRETS OF BLISSFUL RELATIONSHIPS, What the top 1% of marriages have in common - I knew I'd be able to read it from a "professional" point of view. I have been married to my Bill for 47 years, and the love we have shared throughout the years has been wonder-filled, if not always blissful. And so I read with great interest, Michael's insights.

Understanding Alimony

Often times in a case of divorce or legal separation, one spouse may be required to pay the other alimony, or spousal support. Alimony is not to be confused with child support, which is a whole separate issue. Alimony is specifically financial support from one spouse to another.

Historically speaking, alimony came about during a time when divorce was rare, and separation was more common. Because the couple was still legally married, it was viewed that it was still the husband's obligation to continue to financially support his wife. Hence, the laws of alimony were born. However, these days with men and women being considered equals, court now take both parties into consideration and it is not uncommon for a woman to have to pay alimony to her separated or divorced partner.

Weddings are massive events nowadays with brides and grooms spending easily over $50 000 to have a decent, upscale wedding. Usually the price is even more. If you are doing some wedding planning, you cannot start until you have a set budget in place. The worst mistake that you can make is just buying and spending with no budget in mind, because when you get your credit card bill you will be shocked and might not be able to pay it.

There is no reason to be afraid of them, though it is understandable that not many people do want to date them or spend the rest of their life with someone with any of the above mentioned diseases.
