The only thing worse than a keg party with no beer is a keg party with warm beer. Luckily for beer lovers everywhere, someone was sober enough to create a solution to the warm keg debacle: the Jockey Box. The Jockey Box is a simple way to drop the temperature of keg beer down to a more palatable temperature, which is ideal at 28 degrees Fahrenheit. There are many versions, sizes, and materials to use to create your own Jockey Box, but they all do the same thing: transform warm beer into cold beer. The warm beer enters the cooler, flows through 50-120 feet of stainless steel tube submerged in ice water, and flows out cold. Carbon Dioxide (CO2) pressurizes the whole system so beer flows at the exact moment you pull the faucet.

Many of you may be wondering “where has this been all my life?” A hangover away from being your new best friend, a Jockey Box takes some skill, and the right parts and tools to create. But once you have them, just follow these steps to make your very own Jockey Box.

Step 1: Assemble necessary parts and tools.

For this example, we are going to assemble a double-faucet Jockey Box. Here is a comprehensive list of parts and tools for your very own miracle cooler:

• Large cooler, preferrably YETI

Step 2: Drill out the cooler.

Place the coils inside the large cooler and measure where to drill your holes as accurately as possible.

Step 3: Fit PVC pipe in holes.

Cut PVC pipe to fit in these holes. You’ll want the PVC pipe holes because you’ll need to tighten down the shanks and you won’t want to collapse the sides of the large cooler.

Step 4: Fit and Seal

Use silicon to hold the PVC pipe in place and to fill the space between the large cooler and the pipe.

Step 5: Place and Tighten

Place the shanks in the PVC and tighten.

Once your large cooler is ready and you’ve put all the pieces together, it’s time to give it a test run. Fill up your CO2 tank, get some kegs, and throw a party. Here are a few tips to make sure your party is a success:

• The CO2 needs to be between 30-35 psi

• The coils need to be covered with ice water (not just ice) or the beer will come out foamy

• You need to clean the whole system afterwards or it will get moldy

A large cooler with excellent ice retention is optimal for making a Jockey Box. YETI Cooler’s Tundra 65 quart cooler is made with two inches of insulation in the body and three inches in the lid, with a rotational-molded construction (just like a whitewater kayak) that makes them virtually indestructible. They employ freezer-style gaskets that help extend the refreshing qualities of its contents by significantly boosting ice retention. These gaskets insure that the lid is properly secured, keeping the cold air in and the warm air out, allowing the ice do its job. If you are going to build a Jockey Box the right way, you need to invest in the best large cooler there is to offer. Make sure your keg beer is always cold with a YETI Coolers Jockey Box at your next party.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of fishing success is the ability to enjoy a warm meal after a day on the water. The ability to keep caught fish fresh is every bit as important as the fishing skills that caught the fish. Poorly treated fish will taste horrendous, and in the most extreme case can send a family to the emergency room. If there is any doubt that a freshly caught fish is edible when arriving home, throw them away immediately.

Upon dying, fish immediately begin to decompose and bacteria grows at a rate that is much higher than any other types of meat. Keeping fish fresh begins before you even pull them out of the water. Here are some important tips on how to keep fish fresh.

1. Don’t Pull Them Green

Horsing a fish out of the water will usually result in two things: one, he will break off, causing that heartbreaking hollow numbness that washes over your body, leaving you with either excuses or rage; or two, the fish will tear up the boat and his own muscle fibers once inside the boat. Take your time and enjoy wearing the fish out. You have all day, there are no extra points for speed.

2. Swift and Instant

Once you pull the fish out of the water, the time for speed and points come into play. If the fish is big enough to gaff, get it in the boat, pop him once, hard, right behind the eyes – be swift and kind. Gaff placement is key and a technique that every fisherman should know. A misplaced gaff will darken the meat and change the taste of the fish. Once you have gaffed the fish, cover it completely in ice. If the fish is not gaff-sized, put it straight into the ice.

3. Drainage

Always roll with the ice cooler plug open. Standing water is your biggest enemy when it comes to proliferation of bacteria. Nothing could be worse than your fish sitting in water.

4.Time On Ice

Depending on the size of the fish, they need between 3-6 hours on ice. Fish that don’t complete the cooling process and fully reach full rigor will greatly affect the cleaning process and reduce the overall yield percentage.

3. Ice Management

You can never bring too much ice on a fishing trip. Once you catch a fish, you need to cover it like you’re wrapping a baby in a wool blanket during winter. It is recommended to have at least one YETI cooler filled with clean ice and the others half full. YETI Cooler’s Tundra Series is made with two inches of insulation in the body and three inches in the lid, with a rotational-molded construction (just like a whitewater kayak) that makes them virtually indestructible. They employ freezer-style gaskets that help extend the refreshing qualities of its contents by significantly boosting ice retention. These gaskets insure that the lid is properly secured, keeping the cold air in and the warm air out, allowing the ice do its job. Fish that have been cared for using these tips will last up to 1-1/2 weeks or longer. Fishing with a YETI Cooler will ensure that your next fishing trip is a success.

Wildly Stronger, Lasts Longer Than The Average Cooler

Every day Americans eat, drink, travel, commute, and use disposable materials such as plastic, glass, and metal that find their way into landfills. Americans generate trash at the astonishing rate of 4.6 pounds per day per person, which translates to 251 million tons per year, of which 55 percent is buried in landfills. The trash production in the United States has almost tripled since 1960. This is almost twice as much trash per person as most other major countries.

In an era of growing awareness to the environment, individuals, businesses, communities and countries are beginning to measure the relative impact of their actions and their contribution to global climate change. Calculating and tracking an individual carbon footprint can be done in one or two ways: using a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method (more accurate and specific), or only measuring the immediately attributable emissions from energy use from fossil fuels (more general). The first method takes in account all carbon emissions required to build, use and destroy disposable goods. The second method would only account for the fossil fuels that resulted from building, using and disposing of it.

Making an impact on the environment doesn’t happen overnight, but turning your carbon footprint as “green” as possible is a change everyone must make. Investing in products that are made to last a lifetime is definitely a step in the “green” direction. Ice chests and coolers are products that are seen far too often in landfills all over the United States. How many coolers have you owned over the years? How long did each one of them last? Broken hinges, latches, and handles, cracked corners and caved-in lids send even the most expensive coolers to their graves every year. Most coolers can’t take the punishment dished out by the average outdoorsman, let alone the pros who need coolers on a daily basis. With so many coolers finding their way to landfills every year, it is disheartening to know that people are still buying ice chests that don’t last.

Ordinary coolers are injection or blow-molded. These processes are relatively inexpensive, high-volume manufacturing methods commonly used for everyday products like soda bottles. YETI Coolers, on the other hand, are one-piece, rotational-molded, and made from the same indestructible material as whitewater kayaks. The result of this manufacturing process is a cooler with uniform wall thickness, thicker and stronger corners, and a dramatic durable advantage. Once you handle a YETI, you’ll notice a huge difference.

YETI Coolers are wildly stronger and last longer than any other ice chests or coolers available on the market. In fact, YETI Tundra meets Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee (IGBC) standards for bear-resistant containers. They have been thoroughly tested in both controlled bear simulations and with wild grizzly bears. With locks in the integrated padlock ports, on two corners of a YETI Tundra cooler, grizzlies get nothing but frustrated.

The last place you will find a YETI Cooler is in a landfill. They are wildly strong and last longer than any ice chest you have ever owned. With the advent of climate change and the efforts by individuals, companies, and communities to try and lower their carbon footprint, investing in a YETI Cooler will not only keep you from buying another cooler ever again, it will help you preserve the environment while you are out enjoying it.

College road trips are about as American as apple pie, tailgating, and hot dog-eating contests. Toss college football in the mix and you’re a bleeding red, white and blue all over the grill. As any student will contend, there is absolutely no better reason to skip that Friday morning astronomy lab then to hit the road to see your college football team take on a conference foe on the road. In fact, anyone with the passion for their alma mater or local collegiate gridiron giants are willing to hit the road to support the team, to tailgate in strange parking lots, and to take part in a popular American tradition. It’s weekends like these that can define your life, a place where legends are made both on and off the field. There is no better way to spend time with friends, family, food and fun than the college football road trip.

One of the biggest and most infamous college football road trip opportunities happens annually in October. Every year two of the biggest powerhouses in college football meet in Dallas’ Cotton Bowl to determine regional and conference supremacy in a game known as the Red River Rivalry. Originated in 1900, the series between the University of Texas Longhorns and the University of Oklahoma Sooners is considered one of the greatest rivalries in American sports. The game’s outcome typically carries national championship implications, as five of the last nine games have sent the winner to the Bowl Championship Series National Championship Game, including two national championships.

This year’s Red River Rivalry is anticipated to be a game for the decade, featuring two of the nation’s best quarterbacks, the returning Heisman Trophy winner and the runner-up; two of the nation’s leading defenses; and two of the nation’s best coaching staffs. If you are looking for the perfect college football road trip this season, 2009’s Red River Rivalry is the place to be.

With the nation recovering from the recession, it can be difficult to scrape together the funds for optimal fun. You can eliminate unnecessary expenses on a road trip by packing your own food and beverages in an ice chest and bringing it along for the ride. No one wants to sacrifice space in the car for the bulkiness of an ice chest, so it is important to find the right-sized ice chest with the highest quality. YETI Coolers, a premier manufacturer of camping and marine coolers, offers a line of portable ice chests that are extremely durable and the perfect size for any road trip.

The YETI Roadie is a one-piece construction for durability, and made with two inches of insulation in the body and lid. It also has a freezer-style sealing gasket to lock in the cold and keep any contents from spilling in your car. It even has a recessed leak-proof drain plug. The handles are made from stainless steel for easy hauling. Heavy duty T-latches with molded-in keepers to fasten the lid securely closed. For further security, the lid is lockable to keep unwanted friends or animals out, even bears. The Roadie is dry ice compatible and has non-slip, non-marking rubber feet to keep the cooler from going anywhere on its own.

As the college football tradition continues in 2009, it is more important than ever to be prepared for any road trip, whether planned or spontaneous. When the game is on the line, don’t allow your road trip experience to be jeopardized, turn to YETI Coolers for quality insulation, space, durability and ice retention.

Tailgate Your 2009 Season with a YETI Cooler

Every weekend during the fall, hundreds of thousands of people pack parking lots and streets throughout the country to gather in celebration of life, liberty and love for football. Tailgating is a decades-old tradition that began with parties occurring around the open tailgates of truck beds in anticipation of an upcoming sporting event. Over the years, the art of tailgating has evolved and expanded to involve tents, lounge chairs, campers, trailer-sized grills and smokers, televisions and plenty of open space to toss the pigskin. Though tailgating is rapidly growing both in scope and attendance, it still serves its original purpose for bringing people together to celebrate the team and the game.

The 2009 football season is no exception. In fact, one could argue that the upcoming football season, both college and professional, is one of the most highly anticipated seasons in football history. Not once in modern history has college football had two returning Heisman Trophy winners, as well as the runner-up and pre-season favorite. And, with the debut of the most technologically-advanced stadium in the history of the sport, Dallas Cowboys Stadium, and the unexpected return of a legend and a convicted criminal, professional football has reached new heights in athletic and entertainment value. With only weeks away from kick-off, now is the time to make sure you are completely prepared for a historical tailgating season.

Most tailgate parties will require plenty of food and drinks for guests, but these perishable items will need to be purchased days before the event. What can make or break the success of your tailgating party is the quality and quantity of your storage for these perishable items. Unfortunately, most ice coolers are inconsistent and a great tailgate party can quickly be soured by spoiling meat and warm beverages. When the game is on the line, it is absolutely crucial that you have an adequate amount of ice, cooler space and a quality cooler to keep all your food fresh and your drinks refreshing throughout the entire party.

YETI Coolers, a premier manufacturer of camping and marine coolers, are among the best insulated coolers legally available on the market. YETI Coolers have a full two inches or more polyurethane insulation in the walls and lid at most sizes. They also sport a freezer-quality seal gasket and one-piece construction that gives them industry-leading ice retention. YETI has designed the optimal ice cooler for any tailgating party, or backyard barbecue, ensuring the maximum amount of ice retention possible.

The Tundra Series, YETI’s next generation cooler, is made with two inches of insulation in the body and three inches in the lid, with a rotational-molded construction (just like a whitewater kayak) that makes them virtually indestructible. They employ freezer-style gaskets that help extend the refreshing qualities of food and beverages by significantly boosting ice retention. These gaskets insure that the lid is properly secured, keeping the cold air in and the warm air out, allowing the ice do its job. Innovative features include heavy-duty T-Latches and self-stopping hinges that reinforce its overall super-durable design. For those who prefer a smaller cooler, the YETI Roadie Series is also available in 15 quart and 25 quart sizes.

As the tradition continues in 2009, it is more important than ever to be prepared with an adequate amount of ice, cooler space and a quality cooler that keeps all your food fresh and your drinks refreshing throughout the party. When the game is on the line, don’t allow your tailgating party’s supply to be jeopardized by bad ice chests and coolers, turn to YETI Coolers for quality insulation, space, durability and ice retention.

How To Use Dry Ice In Your YETI Cooler

Dry ice is the solid form of carbon dioxide and is colorless, odorless and non-flammable. It is easily produced and most commonly used to preserve food. With its temperature at a steady -109 degrees Fahrenheit, dry ice gives off more than twice the cooling power per pound than regular water ice, which makes it perfect for quickly freezing and keeping items frozen or very cold.

Dry ice is completely safe to be used by itself or in a combination with regular ice, but there are precautionary measures that should be kept in mind. Because of its extreme temperature, it must be handled with protective gloves to prevent getting freezer burn and kept away from children. Ventilation is another very important safety procedure to secure. Because dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide, when it melts, it gives off carbon dioxide gas. It is not extremely harmful, but without proper ventilation, it can displace oxygen. Therefore, store dry ice in a well-ventilated areas, and make sure there is proper ventilation within transit.

If you use dry ice in transit, it is important to also to understand how to use dry ice properly with food and beverage preservation. Experts recommend that a 10 pound block of dry ice is used, which is about 10 inch tall per 15 inches in length of for your cooler. This will keep everything fresh, including water ice, for at least 24 to 48 hours. Wrap each block of dry ice you use in several sheets of newspaper before packing. Dry ice can be packed above or below food. Food will preserve longer if the dry ice is packed on top, but most prefer to pack it on the bottom for convenience.

When packing a cooler with dry ice, it is important to minimize air pockets. Less air space in the cooler will keep dry ice frozen longer. Water ice is great to use for filling in these spaces and always recommended to use in combination with dry ice. A combination of water and dry ice is the best solution for any road or camping trip. Unfortunately, very few ice chests and coolers on the market have the durability and ice retention qualities to optimize the correct usage of dry ice in transportation.

YETI Coolers Keep Your Beer Colder, Longer

Drinking beer is one of the world’s favorite pastimes and is traditionally consumed for almost any occasion. Happy hours, camping trips, tailgating parties, ball games, weddings, or even after mowing the lawn, a cold beer will be there to refresh and inspire. But as global temperatures rise to record highs, a warm beer epidemic is spreading rapidly across the globe, leaving millions of thirsts unquenched and unsatisfied. It is absolutely crucial that better solutions are found to keep beers colder, for longer periods of time, or thirsts everywhere may never fully recover.

When beer isn’t being actively consumed, it belongs in a refrigerator in front of the purple stuff, or chillin’ and relaxin’ among its brethren in an ice chest. As Global Warming rears its Gore-ish head, refrigerators remain consistent and climate controlled , but ice chests everywhere haven’t acclimated and adapted to the intensified UV abuse of the sun. Unfortunately, not all ice chests are created equal. Some are made from basic styrofoam or cheap plastic and built to only fulfill the basic requirements of the casual user. In fact, the majority of the ice chests on the market leave much to be desired for anyone looking for a chest that does what it is supposed to do best: maximize the retention of ice. In these tropical times, there is only one ice chest that meets the global needs of the active, beer drinker and keeps cool under the pressure of rising temperatures.

YETI Coolers, a premier manufacturer of camping and marine coolers, are among the best insulated coolers legally available on the market.
A global epidemic of warm beer is spreading in the wake of climate change, affecting millions of people’s thirsts everywhere. Is the warm beer epidemic leaving your thirst unquenched and unsatisfied? There are solutions available that can help save it from Global Warming. Investing in a YETI Tundra Series Cooler will keep your beer colder for longer periods of time due to their innovative insulation, heavy-duty latching system and freezer-style gaskets.

Tailgate parties have become popular in the United States as social gathering events that traditionally occur before, during and after sporting events, rock concerts and non-sports-related barbecues. The term, “tailgate” derives from the fact that the event is usually held on and around the open tailgate of a vehicle, in the parking lots of stadiums and arenas. People still participate even if their vehicles do not have tailgates. It has become the quintessential social event of any pre-game festivities and, what was originally an underground subculture, is now part of the mainstream sports atmosphere.

Tailgating traditionally involves the consumption of alcoholic beverages, such as beer or mixed drinks, and the grilling of various meats. Popular tailgating foods include picnic staples like hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, bratwurst, and potato salad. As the tradition continues to evolve, other meats and foods have added into the mix, such as steak, ribs, salsa, and fajitas. Unfortunately, the quality of ice coolers are inconsistent and a great tailgate party can quickly be soured by spoiling meat and warm beverages. It is imperative that you have an adequate amount of ice, cooler space and a quality cooler to keep all your food fresh and your drinks refreshing throughout the party.

YETI Coolers, a premier manufacturer of camping and marine coolers, offers a line of portable ice chests that are not only durable, but have been successfully certified as bear resistant by the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee (IGBC).
YETI Coolers also offers a line of portable ice chests that are the perfect size for personal tailgating needs. The YETI Roadie Series features the same composition and durability as the Tundra Series and is available in two sizes: 15 quart and 25 quart. The 15 quart dimensions are 17-1/2” in length, 12-3/8” in width, and 12-1/4” in height. Th 25 quart model’s dimensions are 20-5/8” in length, 14-1/8” in width, and 13-1/2” in height.

Every year the Field & Stream magazine judges the best of the year’s hunting and fishing products and puts them through a torturous test to determine “The Best of the Best.” The winners are products that are a cut above the rest in innovation, design, quality and functionality. They also have to live up a field test by real outsdoorsmen, who are the extremely passionate editors and staff of Field and Stream magazine. The results for 2009 have been released for this grueling competition in time for summer and were detailed in the March 2009 issue.

For companies who make products in the industry, just being considered is an achievement in itself, because not everyone gets past the first review. Field and Stream took an extraordinarily close look at almost 500 entries, divided into 11 categories. The YETI Tundra Cooler received an honorable mention in the Fishing Accessories category. According to the Test Team at Field and Stream:

“Having spent a lifetime using cheap coolers with hinges and fasteners the inevitably break, I’m glad to see that the Yeti is built like the proverbial brick outhouse,” remarked Field and Stream’s fishing blogger, John Merwin, on their website. “There are 2 full inches of insulation inside the rotomolded body and lid. Hinges are recessed to avoid knocks, and the lid has a massive, freezer-type seal.”

The Tundra Series, YETI’s next generation cooler, is made with two inches of insulation in the body and three inches in the lid. The body of the cooler is the same type of material used to make tough river kayaks. The Tundra Series has a pad-lock mechanism, and when locked allows it is be successfully certified as bear resistant by the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee (IGBC). The roto-molded one-piece casing will withstand the high impact of clawing, biting, thrashing, kicking, and cursing of any physical onslaught. If you are still a doubter, visit their website, www.yeticoolers.com to view a short Bear vs. Yeti video.

YETI coolers also employ freezer-style gaskets that help extend the freshness of food by boosting ice retention well beyond the lifetime of regular coolers. These gaskets insure that the lid is properly secured, keeping the cold air in and the warm air out, allowing the ice do its job. Innovative features include heavy-duty T-Latches and self-stopping hinges that reinforce its overall super-durable design.

YETI Coolers 105-Quart Tundra Is Perfect For Fishing

Everyone who loves fishing always dreams of the perfect fishing trip. The perfect cast. The perfect catch. The perfect picture opportunity. The best fishing experience can be more than a dream, if you have the right knowledge and equipment to sustain your catch after pulling it from the water. The first hour after a fish is caught is the most crucial for its stored lifespan. Proper procedure and care can add three to six full days of life without having to dump them in a freezer.

When you have a fish on the line, it is important to take your time and wear him out. If you try to horse the fish out of the water, he will either break off and escape, or tear up the boat and himself, resulting in a less than spectacular specimen. Once you have the fish out of the water, it is important to employ speed. If the fish is big enough, you should gaff him right between the eyes very hard and then completely cover him with ice. If the fish is too small to gaff, just cover in ice immediately.

There is no such thing as “too much ice” on a fishing trip. Any fish that have been caught should be covered in ice immediately like they are a baby in the middle of a winter storm. Bring an extra ice chest that is only full of ice so that you will never run out. Depending upon the size of the fish, they need to be on ice for at least 3-6 hours. Fish that do not complete the cooling process will reduce the amount of meat you will yield from each specimen.

The new 105 quart YETI Tundra is perfect for such a task. The newest member of the Tundra Series, YETI’s 105 quart cooler is made with two inches of insulation in the body and three inches in the lid. The body of the cooler is the same type of material used to make tough river kayaks. It also has a pad-lock mechanism, and when locked allows it is be successfully certified as bear resistant by the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee (IGBC). Yet, the 105 quart YETI Tundra is a bit different. They come with a deeper, taller design that allows more ice to be piled on the contents, keeping them colder longer than the regular YETI Tundra Series’ long model. Because of its new, vertical design, the new YETI 105 quart Tundra has a smaller ‘footprint’, so it will take up less space in your boat or vehicle.

YETI Tundra Series coolers are known for their durability and ice-retention qualities. They are the preferred choice amongst avid fishermen and campers to keep food and libations chilled for the optimal shelf-life. The new 105 quart YETI Tundra is perfect for any fishing trip because of its durability, ice retention and sleek new design that will make any trip the perfect experience. Whether you use it for fishing trips, camping, or road trips, the YETI 105 quart Tundra will handle anything you throw at it.
