This racing festival dates back from 1869 and has many individual races over the course of a week with the highest prize about 200,000 euro’s and is televised throughout the world. It has the famous reputation of having an incredible spirited atmosphere just like the racers and the horses and it attracts about 200,000 race enthusiasts yearly. It is set during the last week of July at the Ballybrit Racecourse and is a real treat for all equine enthusiasts.
2)The Dublin Horse Show 2008 06-10th August
This is a massive exhibition set in the centre of Ireland’s capital Dublin within the RDS complex. It has a huge range of equine based equipment for sale but if you enjoy shopping there are other stalls with general items available in themassive trade hall with over 300 stalls. The main event of the week is of course the racing and is the winning of the Aga Khan Challenge Trophy where eight countries have battled for the title.
3)County Monaghan: Castle Lesley
This Beautiful Irish Castle is one of only 30 still owned by the original family who have owned it from the 1600’s, they have received a number of famous people from poets to politicians and boasts amazingly luxurious accommodation. The Castle Leslie Equestrian Centre is surrounded by beautiful country and is in the ideal situation to appreciate horse riding and recently unveiled a premium equestrian centre that caters for all abilities. Services include 300 new cross-country jumps throughout the 1,000 acres of private estate, over 20 miles of bridleways to meander through the beautiful surroundings and weatherproof provisions for those rainy days.
4)Goffs - Horse Sale Show
Goffs is found in Kill, County Kildare is the premium bloodstock supplier in Ireland and organize special annual events to sell quality horses to anyone who has the money to bid. People can participate in the auction via a web site also but to attend the auction gives all the excitement of an auction as well as viewing some of the animals and meeting other horse owners. Goffs Million Sale is held this year on 29th September to 1st October, features 657 premium yearlings and includes eligibility to the Goffs Millions with the huge prize fund of 3,200,000 Euro’s.
5)27 Racecourse’s Nation Wide
It is a fact that there are more racecourse’s per head in Ireland than anywhere else in the world so where ever your based in Ireland your will never be far from a day at the races. The number of visitors nationwide is over 1.4 million to the 27 unique racecourses. The racecourses range from national hunt to flat or a combination of the two.
