Going to Cyprus

Discover a country where East meets West, fashionable spas sit side-by-side with village kafeneia and heavenly beaches are backed by rugged mountains. While the coast calls to sunseekers and clubbers, inland is a haven of traditional villages, medieval castles and impressive ancient sites.

Now that the Green Line is open, it's finally possible to experience Cyprus as a whole. After 30 years of separation, the two sides are mixing again - spend the night at the thumping clubs of Agia Napa in the South, then laze the day away on the deserted beaches of the Karpaz Peninsula in the North.

Cyprus, or also known as “Aphrodite’s Island”, is the third largest island in the Mediterranean. Whichever part you’re at, be it North or South, High up near the mountains or relaxing at the foot of the ocean, there’s not a part of the island that isn’t simply stunning.

When you’re in Cyprus, time seems to move at a glacial pace. The laid back feel of the island is one of its most alluring traits. Relaxing never seemed this easy, and the scenery, nevermore picturesque. With sunny weather almost all year round, blue skies and ever friendly folk, Cyprus seems to be one of the few “paradises” left on earth.

If there’s one particular thing that comes even close to showing the true beauty of this Island, it would be beaches and everything the coastline has to offer. Imagine a picture perfect postcard with golden beaches and crystal clear waters that glisten underneath the midday sun. Imagine miles of beautiful blue waters with amazing coral reefs and gentle waves. Usually post cards are “too good to be true”, but Cyprus wins the title this time around.

Ayia Napa, a beautiful town located on the southern coast of the island, is just one of the places which has these perfect beaches. Nissi beach, Pantahou beach and Lanta beach are just some of the most frequently visited beaches along Ayia Napa. To compliment the clear blue Mediterranean ocean, water sports are the next best thing to do apart from relaxing. From Jet skiing to canoeing and water skiing, a wide range of activities can be found to suit everyone. For those who really want to see the beauty of the island from its waters however, the best way to do it would be diving.

Seeing life from below the surface is really something else. Diving in Cyprus offers you unparallel beauty, stunning coral bays and a feeling of peace. Diving sites and wrecks such as the “Vera K” or the Amphorae Caves are just some of the amazing places to try your hand at. Whether its just a leisurely dive, or a more adventurous dive, the experience makes you want to come back more every time.

And when relaxing is theme of the day, and you just want to enjoy the sea from a different point of view, enjoy it from the beach caves instead , or at places such as Petra Tou Romiou, better known as “Aphrodite’s rock” . A scenic place where you can just stroll along the beach with backdrops of the lovely ocean, Cyprus doesn’t get any better than this when it comes to beauty.
